The Taylormade Speedblade Iron Sets – A Review

taylormade speedblade

When the Taylormade Speedblade was released, it literally altered the playing field in all professional golf clubs. This new irons have grown to be the best selling golf clubs in the industry and for good reason. If you are just now starting out or trying to reestablish your golfing skills, this is one iron that you should definitely look into. It has the feel of a good high quality golf club in your hands yet doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

I have been playing golf for a number of years and have fallen in and out of love with many irons. The Speedblade has given me everything I’ve been looking for in a solid and consistent distance driver. Speedblades aren’t much different than cavity-cast iron, except they have a medium amount of cast Irons and a nice brushed finish. The face and size look appealing and don’t seem to feel as forgiving as we know they do.

From personal experience, I can tell you that the Speedblade is among the easiest irons to hit longer drives with. For example, with my driver, I get over 90 yards more distance on average with the Speedblade versus other brands. The Speedblade is also much easier to get used to than other brands. You simply need to spend more time hitting practice shots with the Speedblade and less time hitting with other brands. That is what I believe to be the most important aspect of the Speedblade: getting used to hitting it.

One of the biggest differences between the Speedblade and traditional irons is the shape of the shaft. Because the Speedblade is engineered with three layers of thick metal, it causes the shaft to have a flatter face, resulting in less loft and a straighter flight. This results in less trajectory changes for your ball speeds and more consistency with your follow through. Also, the Speedblade has the ability to offset faults in your golf swing so that you’re not always hitting chunk shots because your ball speeds are changing too much.

What I think is the most attractive aspect of the Speedblade is the fact that you’re never dealing with so many seams on a shaft! There are only a few small seam areas on the shaft of a Speedblade compared to that of the long irons (such as those found on a Titleist Long iron) and those seam locations are highly adjustable. If you’re looking to hit longer drives, but you have trouble with slicing the ball, you can simply make your Speedblade’s seam areas tighter to control your distance. If you’re a great hitter with a solid wedge or fairway woods, this is one of the best options for you.

Overall, the Speedblade does everything that I could possibly want in a new club. It will give you the maximum distance that you could ask for, it has nice gaps and it allows for the perfect follow through. What really makes it stand out is that you can adjust its length to your height and stance without compromising your accuracy. All in all, the Speedblade Iron set from Taylormade is a very solid choice for beginners and veterans alike.
